Profile: Lillah Lawson

Having written professionally for many years as well as dabbling in poetry, children’s fiction and essays, Lillah enjoys crossing lines when it comes to literary genres. Her debut novel, a work of southern gothic fiction entitled Monarchs Under the Sassafras Tree, was published by Regal House Publishing in 2019. Her second novel, the first in a thrilling paranormal horror trilogy, Dead Rockstar, was published by Parliament House Press in 2020. A sequel, The Wolfden, will be published in early 2022 with the third and final in the trilogy, Driftwood Dreary, TBA. Her short story “The Lady and the Tall Man” was published in the horror anthology Shiver: A Cold Weather Anthology, edited by Nico Bell, in February 2021.

In 2020, Lillah was a recipient of the UGA Willson Center/Flagpole Magazine micro-fellowship for “Living Through a Pandemic.” As part of the installation, Lillah’s short story “Shoofly” was showcased in an online and print exhibition hosted by the University of Georgia.

Lillah lived abroad in New Zealand for five years, where she attended Massey University, majoring in World Religions and Women’s Studies, two subjects which fueled her literary fire. She is especially fond of New Zealand culture and considers the country her second home.

In addition to writing, Lillah’s passions include cycling, playing bass, baking, genealogy, and travel. She is a voracious reader and music lover. Most of Lillah’s work takes place in her home state of Georgia, where she finds the culture, history and spirit to fuel her literary fire. She currently lives just outside of Athens, Georgia with her husband and son and is working on both a southern crime thriller and a spooky roaring twenties novel (that has a real bite!).

If Stormy Spooner thought she’d hit rock bottom before, she was wrong. Before she had fully healed from her bitter divorce, a chaotic turn of events left several people dead. Now, her reanimated boyfriend Phillip refuses to take her calls. Heartbroken and confused by her newfound powers, Stormy returns to work in an attempt to find her new normal.

When Roberta—the woman who broke up her marriage—turns up at her job, Stormy wants nothing more than to make her disappear. But Roberta comes seeking help only Stormy can provide: People are going missing, and Stormy’s unique abilities mean she’s the only one who might be able to bring them home.

Following a trail of mystery and danger, Stormy lands among a motley crew of rough-housers. Will they help her solve the mystery of the missing people? Will Stormy realize her true power or succumb to her fractured heart? If all that weren’t enough, now she’s got to dig up painful, buried memories. The more she remembers, the stronger a new villain’s power grows.

To defeat him, a price must be paid…one that may cost Stormy everything.
