Profile: Piper Mejia

Piper Mejia is an advocate for New Zealand writers and literature and is a co-founder of Young NZ Writers—a non-profit dedicated to providing opportunities for young writers in New Zealand. Her short fiction has appeared in a range of publications including Babyteeth, Conclave, Spec-Fic Short Cuts, Short Cuts Track 1, Te Korero Ahi Ka, and Trickster’s Treats 3. A collection of her short stories, The Better Sister, will be published by Breach in 2020. As a child, Piper stayed up late laughing at horror films. As an adult, she spends a lot of time being disappointed by plot holes and yet somehow she has never lost her love for science fiction and horror; two genres that continue to ask the question “What if . . .”

Most Recently Published Book (as of April 2020)

This is the third anthology of Halloween stories from the pumpkin-master himself, the Trickster! Our tricky theme this year, “The Seven Deadly Sins,” means for each of the seven sins, we’ve gathered a crop of seven spooky stories of 700 words each, giving you a real treat of forty-nine short stories! All proceeds this year go to Charity: Water. Artwork by horror writer and artist Greg Chapman, and edited by an international lineup of two co-editors and seven subeditors (one for each ‘sin’) and assisted by Steve Dillon from “Things in the Well.”
